Behind the Brand
Richard Sparrenhök and Sara Edhäll took over Iris Hantverk in 2012 to continue the Swedish brushmaking tradition. Originally founded in 1906, Iris Hantverk was inspired by a campaign by the association of the blind to help the visually impaired make a living from their labour. They now sell their brushes worldwide and supply Swedish artisans with raw materials.
A Swedish Tradition
Sweden has a long history of brushmaking, and it has traditionally been a craft associated with the visually impaired. Iris Hantverk were keen to continue this practice and now employ 17 visually impaired skilled brushmakers in Sandsborgsvägen, Sweden and Estonia. All of their brushes are made by skilled craftsmen using natural materials and a focus on good design.
Beautiful and Functional
Iris Hantverk's brushes are sturdy and practical, but they are also beautifully designed and pleasing to hold. From beech wood to rice root, the materials add a nordic charm to everyday tasks. They also work with a team of designers to ensure that even the humble dish brush is a stylish addition to the kitchen sink.
