Behind The Brand
This iconic Swiss company started as a family business in 1915. Known initially as Fabrique Genevoise de Crayons, the brand was rechristened Caran d'Ache in 1924. Caran d'Ache has its roots in the Turkish word "kara-tash" (black stone) as a nod to their use of graphite. Caran d'Ache remains a family company, currently led by Carole Hubscher, who represents the fourth generation of the family involved in the company's management.
The Finest Quality
Caran d'Ache are renowned worldwide for the quality of the materials they use. They use the finest pigments, technical brilliance and dedicated craftspeople who draw on a century of industry knowledge. Over 90 trades come together to produce writing implements of exceptional quality.
Sustainability and Social Responsibility
Caran d'Ache is committed to sustainability and social responsibility, and these values are at the heart of everything they do. Using solar panels, waste wood shavings as fuel and reduced water usage; they show their commitment to the environment every working day. In 2018, Caran d'Ache became one of the signatories of the UN Global Compact that encourages companies to adopt a socially responsible approach.
