Blackwing
Blackwing's roots go back to the 1930s, when the 602 model was first introduced. Over the years, this pencil has become a cult classic synonymous with quality.
An Illustrious Provenance
Since its creation in the 1930s, the Blackwing 602 pencil has been loved and used by prestigious writers and artists, including John Steinbeck, Looney Tunes creator Chuck Jones and Disney animator Shamus Culhane. Culhane loved his pencil so much; he even asked to be buried with it!
Resurrected for a New Generation
Originally made by the Eberhard Faber Pencil Company, new company owners discontinued the pencil in 1988, but its fans never forgot their favourite pencil and it was revived in 2011. Made with Californian incense Cedar and a firm and smooth graphite core, the pencil delivers "Half the Pressure, Twice the Speed'' and an iconic square Blackwing ferrule with a pink eraser. Blackwing now undertakes exciting collaborations, including Jack White from The White Stripes, novelists and museums.
Slowing it Down
Blackwing is not just a pencil. It's part of company culture. Composed of artists, writers and musicians, Blackwing values the slow and mindful pace of the analogue world and its importance for wellbeing. They also promote new musical talent through Blackwing Music and support arts and music programmes in schools via the Blackwing Foundation. Money earned from every Blackwing pencil sold goes towards supporting the foundation.
